Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using RootBase ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App. These Terms constitute a legal agreement between you and RootBase Labs LLC ("we," "our," or "us"), a limited liability company registered in the State of Arkansas.

Description of Service

RootBase is a plant care tracking application that helps you manage watering schedules, care logs, and other plant-related information. The App's core features operate on your device and do not require a RootBase account or registration. Optional features, such as iCloud Sync, require an internet connection and an Apple Account signed in to iCloud.

Use of the App

You may use RootBase for personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the App, except to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law.

Your Data

All data you create within RootBase, including plant profiles, care logs, photos, and notes, is stored locally on your device unless you choose to use iCloud Sync or export a backup, as described below. We do not have access to your data, including any backups you create, and cannot recover it if it is lost. You are solely responsible for backing up your device and any data stored within the App.

Backup and Restore

RootBase provides optional tools to help you back up, restore, and sync your data. These tools are provided for your convenience, on an "as is" basis, and are not a guarantee that your data will be preserved or recoverable.

Export Backup. The App can create a backup file (a ZIP archive containing your plant database and photos) and hand it to your device's share sheet. You choose where the file is sent or saved. Backup files are not encrypted by RootBase. Once a backup file leaves the App, its storage, security, and any sharing of it are your responsibility and are governed by the terms of whatever app or service you choose.

Daily Snapshots. The App keeps up to seven daily snapshots of your plants and care history on your device. Snapshots do not include photos; a restore from a snapshot uses the photos still on your device. Snapshots are removed when you uninstall the App.

Restore. Restoring from a snapshot or a backup file replaces the plants, care history, and photos currently in the App with the contents of the snapshot or backup. This cannot be undone. If iCloud Sync is on, the restore also replaces the data on your other devices using iCloud Sync, and changes they have not yet synced are lost. Only restore backup files that were created by RootBase and that you trust. We are not responsible for data loss or other issues caused by restoring a file that is incomplete, modified, corrupted, or not created by RootBase.

iCloud Sync. iCloud Sync is off until you turn it on and requires an Apple Account signed in to iCloud. When it is on, the App keeps your plants, care history, and photos the same on every device signed in to that account. Please note:

• Sync is not a backup. Changes and deletions made on one device, including a restore, are applied to your other devices.
• If iCloud already holds RootBase data when you turn sync on, the App asks whether to use the data in iCloud, use this device's data, or merge both. Using one side's data replaces the other. Merging keeps both, so plants that exist on both sides will appear twice.
• Photos sync over Wi-Fi only unless you allow cellular data in the App's settings.
• Sync runs in the background and may be delayed or fail, for example due to network conditions, insufficient iCloud storage, or iCloud being unavailable. We do not guarantee that any change will be synced or current.
• Turning sync off keeps the data on your device. Turning it off or uninstalling the App does not remove your data from iCloud; you can manage or delete it through your device's iCloud storage settings.

iCloud is a service provided by Apple. Your use of iCloud, including storage limits and any associated fees, is subject to Apple's terms and conditions. Synced data is stored in your iCloud account, not on servers operated by us, and we cannot access, restore, or delete it on your behalf.

Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, code, graphics, icons, and content, is owned by RootBase Labs LLC and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right, title, or interest in the App beyond the limited license to use it as described here.

Plant Care Disclaimer

RootBase provides scheduling tools, care suggestions, and general plant care information for informational purposes only. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of any care recommendations. Plant care outcomes depend on many factors beyond our control, including environment, plant health, and user actions. You are solely responsible for the care of your plants. We are not liable for any plant damage, loss, or death that may occur while using the App.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, RootBase Labs LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App, regardless of the theory of liability. Our total cumulative liability to you for all claims arising from or relating to the App shall not exceed the amount you paid to us, if any, in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Third-Party Services

The App is distributed through the Apple App Store. Your use of the App Store is subject to Apple's own terms and conditions. Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the App or its content.

If you use iCloud Sync, your data is stored using Apple's iCloud service and is subject to Apple's terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for the availability, performance, or security of iCloud or any other third-party service you use to store or share backup files.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Terms on this page with a revised effective date. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it from your device. We reserve the right to discontinue the App or any part of it at any time, without notice or liability.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Arkansas, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts located in Benton County, Arkansas.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and RootBase Labs LLC regarding your use of the App, and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
